Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
What is RPL?
RPL is a process that is used to assess a student's prior work experience and prior formal or informal study against a nationally recognised qualification (e.g. Certificate III in Hospitality, Diploma of Business, etc.). Work experience can include on the job learning. Prior formal study includes TAFE or university courses, while informal study includes attendance at conferences and workshops as well as internal non-accredited training.
Training for Work's RPL Process
- Training for Work offers RPL to every student prior to the commencement of their course. This process ensures that students are not required to study units where they already have prior work experience and / or study.
- A qualified and highly experienced Industry Training Consultant meets with each student to discuss their prior work experience and prior study to identify opportunities for RPL.
- Where opportunities for RPL are identified, the Industry Training Consultant works one-on-one with the student to collect evidence to support their prior learning and / or study. Evidence may include a resume, letters of support from customers, peers / colleagues and managers, examples of work completed previously in the workplace, etc.
- After evidence has been collected to support the student's prior learning and / or study, the Industry Training Consultant also spends time with the student and assesses their underpinning skills and knowledge using a number of pre-set semi-structured questions.
What qualifications is RPL available for?
RPL is available for all qualifications offered by Training for Work.
